Is tithing a new-covenant must?
Our church pushes 10% hard. I want to give generously. I'm just confused what's command vs wise habit. Verses welcome.

NT emphasis is cheerful, proportional generosity more than a rigid tax (2 Corinthians 9:7). Some of us still use 10% as a helpful floor. Real question: does money own you, or does Christ? Matthew 6:21 — where your treasure is, there your heart will be.

Helpful. Our pulpit makes it sound like Leviticus with a POS machine. Going to give intentionally without the fear language.

Budget first: 1 Timothy 5:8 — provide for your household. Then give. Debt from 'sowing a seed' while kids lack food is not faith.

If leaders threaten curse language for missing 10%, push back gently with Galatians 3:13 and 2 Corinthians 9. God loves a cheerful giver, not a terrified one.

Jesus affirms justice and mercy while mentioning tithe in Matthew 23:23 — He doesn't mock generosity; He rebukes neglecting weightier things. Don't use 'not under law' as cover for stinginess.

I give firstfruits because it trains my heart before rent panic spends everything. Proverbs 3:9 — honour the Lord with your wealth. Percentage is a tool; fear-fundraising is not.

Decide with your spouse, give quietly, review yearly. Matthew 6:3-4 — don't perform giving for status.

Early church shared radically (Acts 2:45; 4:34-35) without a single verse reducing everything to a flat 10%. Generosity can exceed tithe.
