Church friends mean well but some of them act like counselling is unbelief. I'm anxious a lot. Can I take meds / see a therapist and still be trusting God?

Yes. Faith and wisdom aren't enemies. Cast your cares on Him (1 Peter 5:7) and get help if your body/mind needs it. God uses means — doctors, counsellors, medication, sleep, exercise — the same way He uses food when you're hungry. Philippians 4:6-7 is prayer with thanksgiving, not a ban on clinical care.

Thank you. I've been carrying shame on top of the panic. Booking the Christian counsellor this week.

If your church culture mocks mental health care, you may need quieter counsel from a mature believer outside that circle — not to rebel, but to heal. God is not threatened by your psychiatrist.

Be careful with shame either direction: don't idolise therapy as saviour, and don't idolise 'I only pray.' Bring both to Christ. James 5:14-16 holds prayer and practical care in the same church life.

Medication didn't make me less dependent on God — it made prayer possible again when my brain wouldn't stop replaying disasters at 2am. Stewardship of the temple includes the brain (1 Corinthians 6:19-20).

Some anxiety is spiritual attack, some is trauma, some is biology, some is caffeine and no Sabbath. Discernment asks questions; slogans don't. If someone says counselling equals unbelief, ask them where Scripture forbids it. They usually can't.

I'm a nurse. I've watched believers refuse care until crisis hit, then call it 'faith.' That's not Hebrews 11 — that's fear wearing church clothes. Proverbs 11:14 says there is safety in many advisers. A good therapist can be one of them.

What helped me: therapy for the spirals, a GP for meds review, and a small group that prayed without diagnosing me spiritually every time my voice shook. Psalm 34:18 — the Lord is near to the brokenhearted. Nearness is not the same as 'snap out of it.'
