We are temples of the Lord. Our bodies, so beautiful, awesome, brilliant, dazzling, and glowing, are temples of the living God.
Sometimes, when you stand before a mirror and see yourself, you wound want to say, "Yes, I think I am beautiful, I am handsome, I am wonderfully made."
The human race has some forms of pride, which it erroneously terms status. These include the Pride of Race, Pride of Pace, Pride of face, and Pride of Grace.
Recently, I had the cause to explain to a group of people some of the forms of pride that exist.
♤ Pride of Race
♤ Pride of Pace
♤ Pride of Face
♤ Pride of Grace, among others.
PRIDE OF RACE has to do with where you come from, your nationality, tribe or tongue. Some people will say, "I am black, I am white, I am an American, I am British, I am a Nigerian," etc. That is what I call "Pride of race" and it is usually the bedrock of all forms of 'isms' such as tribalism, nepotism, sectarianism, etc.
... there is neither greek nor jew, circumcised nor uncircimcised, barbarian, Scythian, slave nor free, but Christ is all and in all. Colosians 3: 11.
PRIDE OF PACE is that which comes upon a person as a result of their achievement.
If, by a measure of grace, you are priviledged to be ahead of your contemporaries in good time, say in education, professionally, financially or in the society then you must be careful so that you do not begin to see others as either lazy, foolish or inferior to you.
PRIDE OF GRACE has to do with the disposition of some to the privileges that they enjoy . Some people believe that they are self-made, that all they have achieved was due to their brillians, dilligence, or sacrifice. Like Nebuchadnezzar, they take credit for all of their achievements without as much as a mention or recognition of the Grace of God.
The Bible tells us that whatever a man has or becomes is given to him by God, through Grace. There are others who are better, smarter, more diligent but who do not enjoy the privileges that you have been given. John 3: 27, James 1: 17.
PRIDE OF FACE is when you begin to think that you are better than others because of your physical beauty.
Many people are so proud of their good looks that they flaunt it carelessly, sometimes oblivious to the adverse effects of their action on others.
Yes, beauty is a divine endowment, but we must be careful not to worship the gift but its giver. Remember, no matter how beautiful the temples of our bodies are, they shal be brought down low someday. We shall have to die one day.
