Mary Is More Of A Servant Than Zechariah

Though Zechariah was serving in the temple, publicly doing his own work as a priest.

He served, though, but there was something he missed by his interraction with the angel of the Lord in Luke chapter 1.

We have to examine when the angel of the Lord appeared to Zechariah and revealed what God has planned for his family in response to their prayers.

Luke 1 vs 18; Zechariah asked the angel, “How can I be sure of this? I am an old man, and my wife is well along in years.”

His response to the angel of the Lord made his mouth to be shut, and he was unable to speak until God's word came to pass.

It appears to me that God wants us to be silent so He can fulfil all the He had said concerning us.

Luke 1 vs 20; And now you will be silent and not able to speak until the day this happens, because you did not believe my words, which will come true at their appointed time.”

If man decides to speak, God will decide to be silent. We can not be speaking when our God is speaking.

Many of the errors we commit as Christians are based on the fact that we want to be sure of what the Lord wants to do. Meanwhile, what is expected of us is to obey.

Unlike mary, the mother of Jesus.

Luke 1 vs 38; “I am the Lord’s servant,” Mary answered. “May your word to me be fulfilled.” Then the angel left her.

The office of a servant of God is always to find out what God wants for him/ her and not try to question the authority of Jesus.

Many of us are yet to be servants truly, and we talk more about becoming faithful in our servanthood.

May God help us to be servants!

Yes, there are times when silence is golden. In the context above, Zechariah mouth was shut not because he dare to reply God. Moses, Abraham, Paul, Peter conversed with God in Prayer. The problem in the case of Zechariah was unbelief. God needed to shut his mouth so he can perform His counsel in his family otherwise he could be robbed by unbelief just like the majority of the children of Israel who couldn't enter the promised land were robbed by unbelief.
