Jesus came as man, in the weak human flesh. He needed to demonstrate strength in the flesh in order to empower us who live in the flesh. Temptation is the way sin knocks on our door, and the devil is the master of sin. It is his tool for misleading us away from God's path, for making us go contrary to God's laws, and for making us invoke God's wrath. The devil knew Jesus in heaven as God the Son. Seeing Him in human flesh made to think he could use temptation and sin to overcome him. But Jesus demonstrated supernatural strength in the weak human flesh to overcome him. This, for us, is the standard of resistance we need to maintain. Jesus shows us not only the possibility of resisting temptation, but how to do it by speaking God's word against the devil and his temptation. Each time the devil tempted Jesus, He was always replying with the word of God. This is the guide and standard Jesus has set for us.
