Good morning all. While is that worshippers who are active in every other aspects of the service fall asleep when preaching (even when it’s not a boring message) is going on? And how can one stay awake without dozing off during sermon?

Most commonly, these people do not come to church to hear God's word. They come for the euphoria of the praise session, to dance and jump up and down.

Other times, it is the handiwork of the devil. When it is time for the word, he initiates sleep, knowing fully well that it is written in the book of Revelation that they overcame him by the words and testimonies and of their mouth. So, when the revelation of God's word that would liberate men comes, they would be found asleep.

Thirdly, for the first set of people, it could just be that after the jumping up and down while dancing, the body is week and wants to rest, so it begins to gradually shut down.

What can be done to curtail this is to absolutely rejoice in the Lord, dance but make sure you don't give in to the demands of your weak body. Secondly, shun the devil and he will flee from you. Pray against the spirit of distraction which manifests itself in sleep.

It is actually the strategy of Satan to induce people into sleep during sermon so that he can rob them of the accruing knowledge without which they are susceptible to destruction - Hosea 4:6.

Apart from spiritually fighting the spirit of sleep by resisting the devil (James 4:7), you can physically fight it by going to Church with a pen and notepad. Then more importantly, use the writing materials to jot down points when your Pastor is preaching. Blessings.
