Speaking in tongues is done by Faith.

Seventy percent of Christians don't speak in tongues because ‘‘It just doesn't feel right’’ Well... It doesn't need to feel right to be done. It's just like a Christian who doesn't feel like he's saved from sin after believing and confessing Jesus as Lord. It really doesn't matter how you feel but what the word of God says. Because the devil can bring feelings. In Mark 16:17 and 18 Jesus clearly says that those who believe in Him will speak with new tongues. So a Christian should speak in tongues by making the utterance and allowing the spirit of God to feel your mouth.

The way you have Faith that you're going to Heaven, that is how you must believe that you're communicating with God when speaking in tongues.

I agree with you that speaking in tongues is indeed an act of faith, but I also believe it's important to focus on personal growth. It's essential to study the Scriptures to deepen our understanding and strengthen our FAITH.

Speaking in tongues is one of the gifts of the Holy Spirit, and He gives different gifts to each believer as He chooses (1 Corinthians 12:10-11). Therefore, we need not prioritize one gift over the other. Anyone who believes can be given any gift, and not necessarily speaking in tongues. God's Spirit decides which gift to give, and His decision remains unquestionable. True believers who cannot speak in tongues should not be regarded as those who lack faith, they definitely have other spiritual gifts they've received from God for the edification of the Church.

Above all, speaking in tongues is for self edification, and really has no benefit to the Church. Little wonder, apostle Paul admonished the Christians in Corinth to pursue love and desire the gift of prophecy as one which will help other Christians grow in faith (1 Corinthians 14).

Shalom!

What is Speaking in Tongues?

Unarguably, speaking in tongues is one of the Spiritual gifts (1 Corinthians 12:1ff). It is the divine power to speak in the languages of other people which the speaker doesn't learn. Speaking in tongues is not gibberish. It is not speaking combination of jargon of syllables.

According to the account of Acts 2:1-11; people who were present knew that the apostles who were baptized with the Holy Spirit were speaking in the people's own dialects in which they were born. The apostles present were Galileans, but the Jews from different nations were greatly amazed how the Galileans were able to speak in Parthians and Medes dialects, in Elamites, Mesopotamia, Judaea, in Cappadocia, Pontus, Asia, Phrygia, in Pamphylia, Egypt, Libya about Cyrene, in Rome, Cretes and Arabians. They all heard the apostles speaking in their dialects the wonderful work of God (v. 11).

Speaking in tongues is one of the signs used to confirm the preaching of the early Christians as divine message (Mark 16:20; cf. Hebrews 2:3-4).

Speaking in tongues is not what is done by faith but a gift that is received through the laying on of the apostles' hands (Acts 8:17-18; 19:6). Only the apostles (through the help of the Holy Spirit) possessed the power to grant spiritual gifts to believers through laying on of hands (Acts 8:17-18).

Do people who claim to have the power of speaking in tongues are actually speaking in the languages of some people different from theirs? How do they receive the power? For what purpose do they speak in some people's language which they didn't learn?
