Is it good to rap as a Believer?

I've got personal questions from people who ask if it's good to go into the rap genre of music as a Believer (not just a random Christian), so I decided to throw out the question here.

The scripture said, "...Is any merry? let him sing psalms." (James 5:13, KJV). Besides, Ephesians 5:19 says, "Speaking to yourselves in psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing and making melody in your heart to the Lord" (cf. Colossians 3:16, KJV).

In view of the foregoing scriptures, the so-called "rap genre of music" is alien and foreign to the teaching of the scriptures in respect to the kind of songs that true believer in Christ should be involved.

Well, it depends. What makes a song spiritual is not the genre. It's the source of inspiration - the Spirit behind it and the lyrics- the wording! Are they scriptural? Do they promote God's glory or stir up ungodly and beastly passion?
If they promote godliness, I dare say based on the teachings on Romans 14, that the born again believer is free to rap. Do you want to rap? Rap by the Spirit, promote salvation and godliness. The scriptures say in
Colossians 3:17
[17]And whatsoever ye do in word or deed, do all in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God and the Father by him.
Again
Colossians 3:23
[23]And whatsoever ye do, do it heartily, as to the Lord, and not unto men;
So, it's not the genre. It's the Spirit behind it and the lyrics that determines the effects and consequences the spirituality or not!
Shalom!
