Firstly, everyone in the church should be children of God. Though, the definition of church now has changed badly.

Secondly, you must be wise to descern that the person is truly a child of God.

Thirdly, check for your friends beyond spiritual things. That someone is matured spiritually doesn't mean they are emotionally matured.

Fourthly, prayer remains best!

1. Discernment is key, not everyone who is in fellowship is there to know God, some of them are there on another mission.

The criteria for relationship is you both have the same goal and the goal we have in common as Believers is to make Abba known, that Abba be seen in all we do.

I believe the criteria for godly friendships should be godliness. How much of Christ can be seen in this person ? If none then the friendship can not be called godly. To discover true friendships, you must first show yourself to be true. Likes attract, if you have standards around your life, a certain kind of people know there is nothing of themselves in you
Keep your standards, don't let just anyone hang about your life.
Those people hanging around are telling others the kind of person you are.
